ICU – Institute for University Cooperation Onlus presents: “SaveWaterReuseWater: The ACCBAT Strategic Project”

Deepening and strengthening cooperation between the Mediterranean countries to manage water resources in agriculture in the adaptation to climate change through more efficient use of water and the use of treated wastewater for irrigation. This is the main aim of the International Conference SaveWaterReuseWater: The ACCBAT Strategic Project organized by ICU – Institute for University Cooperation Onlus, in collaboration with the Council for Agricultural Research and Economics (CRA –INEA), on the occasion World Water Day 2015 with the patronage of Expo Milano 2015.

Institutional representatives and Italian delegations of the Agriculture Ministries of Tunisia, Lebanon and Jordan working with ICU in the practical experience of cross-border cooperation in the international project ACCBAT aimed at better management of water in agriculture in the context of change climate, will participate to the event. The presence of institutional representatives and experts will favour the establishment of a dialogue for the policies coordination on water management working to the entire Mediterranean basin, starting from the elaboration of Water Quality Index provided by ACCBAT.

The ACCBAT project, funded by the European Union under the ENPI-CBCMED (of which Sardinia Region is the managing authority), from the value of approximately 5 million Euros and lasting three years, is a strategic project that promotes the treated wastewater use for irrigation in Jordan, Lebanon and Tunisia with the aim of increasing efficiency in water use and reduce the conventional waters consumption.

During the morning, the activities results carried out by ICU and its partners: the Jordanian National Centre for Research and Extension in Agriculture, the Ministries of Agriculture of Lebanon and Tunisia and the Basin Authority of the Po River, will be presented.

During the event, the exhibition “Reclamation hydraulic plants and irrigation networks: 150 years together with Italy” funded by Mipaaf and realized by INEA in collaboration with the ANBI – National Association of Reclamation and Irrigation, will also be open to the public.

For the importance of the topic discussed during the event, in order to enhance the dialogue on water scarcity in the Mediterranean issues and to promote closer cooperation on this issue in the area, Italian and international institutional participants wishing to take part in the event will be welcome.
