This publication is part of the development education project “Water Scarcity and Water Cooperation in the Mediterranean basin: university and high school courses for a new culture on water in the International Year of Water Cooperation 2013” made by ‘ICU, in collaboration with the Foundation Monserrate, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation – Directorate General for Development Cooperation.
The project “Water Scarcity and Water Cooperation in the Mediterranean” had as its main target the students and teachers of universities and colleges in Italy and addressed the management of water resources in the Mediterranean, particularly in Tunisia, Lebanon and Jordan. From a concrete experience of development cooperation of ICU in these countries, the aim was to sensitize the target group on issues related to the scarcity of water resources in developing countries and on the activities of the Italian and the international Cooperation are undertaking in this regard, in order to facilitate the empowerment and participation in water conservation: the common good primary.
This publication addresses the problem of water resources with a multidisciplinary approach, recognizing that the approach to be taken must not only respect the principles of environmental, economic and social formulated in the international arena, but also take into account local peculiarities of each area.
