Overview:
1) The project aims to help reduce the digital divide and improve the conditions for entry into employment of young Guatemalans on the outskirts of Guatemala City, through the implementation of quality training in technology and information particularly through the Cisco Academy. The project aims at spreading information technology in schools attended by poor people, to quality teaching certificate and a close relationship between businesses and educational institutions.
Activities:
- purchase of equipment and establishment of a pilot laboratory for teaching at the Kinal institute;
- training of 12 teachers through expatriate staff and scholarships;
- introduction of technology and information teachings in 8 more schools in Guatemala, 1 in Honduras and 1 in El Salvador;
- launch of new short technical courses based on information technology at the Kinal institute;
- creation of an employment agency for former students to facilitate contact with companies;
- creation of a network among the various schools benefiting from the program and between local authorities and educational institutions.
Results in 2011:
- Training of 20 professors terminated.
