Overview:
1) To improve the living conditions of 90 families of small coffee producers in the area, through the introduction of an alternative production technique. Therefore the overall objective is to raise the living conditions of all the rural population in El Salvador, which went through a strong crisis of the coffee market. The purpose of the project is to improve the socio-economic level of the small coffee producers within the cooperatives of La Concordia and Los Clavelitos in Tacuba (Cantón El Sicuyo) through the introduction of a new production technique based on increasing coffee productivity, the diversification of cultivation and small animal breeding.
Activities:
– increase of the productivity on 28 ha of coffee cultivation through the introduction of eco-sustainable techniques;
– diversification of the production on 42 ha of coffee cultivation through the introduction of fruit trees (orange, avocado, banana, lemon);
– training courses for producers on management, product marketing and production techniques;
– poultry breeding for each cooperative;
– providing basic medical assistance through training;
– courses and medical examinations.
Results:
– coffee productivity increased for the 90% (165% more from the beginning of the project);
– orange, avocado, banana and lemon trees distributed;
– second phase of medical examinations to the population realized;
– vitamin and iron treatments offered to people;
– training and technical assistance provided;
– publication and video on the project realised.
