Overview:
1) To improve the living conditions of the population of the area of Abuja and Jos both from an economic and social point of view through the improvement of the training for youth and the greater availability of social and educational services for adults.
Activities:
- construction of a residential secondary school for 600 young people in the center of Karu (Abuja);
- implementation of a social aggregation service for young people to practice sports and awareness activities;
- implementation of a service for the medical and psychological assistance at the multifunctional care center in Jos addressed to young people under 25 years and to marginalized women;
- implementation of a vocational training and assistance to micro-enterprise in the multifunctional center of Jos for young people under 25 and marginalized women.
Results:
- 38 business activities started in Jos by the people formed in the Center;
- 80% of people attending the training increased their income;
- at the end of the project are enrolled at St. Augustine’s College 230 boys from all over the country;
- the internal staff participates in continuing education programs;
- by 2010 is active an annual training programme for teachers at St. Augustine’s College, in 2010 35 teachers were trained;
- at the end of the project at least 2,800 people participated in awareness-raising activities and social aggregation;
- at the end of the project the socio-medical service has assisted approximately 400 women (data as of June 2009);
- at the end of the project the Centre has trained approximately 1,550 people (1,300 women and 250 boys);
- from May 2014 – i.e. by the end of the first educational cycle – will be awarded a maximum of 110 degrees per year.
