Overview:
1) CECFOR has set up an horticulture seed production centre in the department of Mont Ngafula, in the outskirts of Kinshasa. The department is mainly a rural area with good marketing opportunities for agricultural products in the nearby Capital. The project delivers high quality seed to farmers and technical assistance for cultivation and marketing.
Activities:
– starting up of a centre for production, conditioning and marketing of horticultural seeds on a surface of 11ha at Kimbondo;
– technical assistance and training courses for the farmers of Mont Ngafula.
Results:
– 14 hectares rehabilitated for the production of seeds;
– an irrigation system completed;
– 100 kg of selected seeds produced and distributed to the local farmers;
– office and laboratory equipment completed;
– training sessions to the local technicians completed;
– technical assistance provided to 17 associations on the correct use of the horticultural seeds produced by the project completed.
