Through this project ICU aimed art improving socio-economic olivicole families conditions by reforming and developing the olive oil sector by focusing on the quality and marketing aspects.
Among the most relevant results, in the villages of Bar Elias-Bekaa and in the Baalbek region it was re-equipped and rehabilitated the Olive Oil Collecting Centre (OOCC) with 100.000 litres of olive oil stored in good conditions, bottled and marketed.
The activities of the projects have been:
• collecting data and information about the entire olive oil value chain directly from the actors;
• realization of a sectorial market analysis;
• planning the building rehabilitation and drawing up of the Bill of Quantities (BoQs);
• rehabilitation on the Olive Oil Collecting Centre (OOCC);
• equipment procurement;
• equipment installation and startup of OOCC (contract with farmers, collect and store oil, bottling and packaging, marketing);
• OOCC human resources selection and recruitment (Director of the centre and marketing expert);
• training session for farmers on all topics related to olive oil production;
• training session for olive millers capacity building;
• realization of a broadcast on radio for public awareness and promotion of extra virgin olive oil;
• preparation and dissemination of promotional materials.
The result indicators reached are:
• Olive Oil Collection Centre rehabilitated and equipped. 100.000 litres of olive oil stored in good conditions, bottled and marketed;
• 10 training sessions for RUCSL and MoA staffs;
• 15 training sessions for olive millers;
• 1 olive oil tasting event realized in Beirut;
• Participation to 1 event in the South;
• 1 documentary realized;
• 3 promotional brochures prepared and printed;
• 1 website created and activated;
• 3 interviews realized and 2 news published on the media.
