Children participating in sport activities
Overview:
To improve the life conditions of Iraqi refugees in Syria, increase intercultural dialogue and recreation area usable by the community. More specifically the project aims to improve access to extra-school sports activities available to Iraqi refugees and people living in Jaramana (Damascus).
Activities:
- regular meetings for the elaboration of a Paper of intents with key local actors involved in sport for the use of the structure;
- preliminary meetings for the creation of a management committee;
- monthly meetings for the development of a program of six months activities;
- purchase sporting equipment;
- organization of 8 sports initiatives for Iraqi refugees open to other residents;
- medical check-up for young involved in sport activities;
- supply of medicines for first aid;
- development of a program of nutrition and seminars on nutrition, proper alimentation, and the importance of daily calcium assumption during the growing season;
- photographic documentation of the material;
- collecting material for publication;
- organization of design workshops and Theatre on nutrition and the importance on daily assumption of milk during the growing season.
Results:
- a new sport facility is operational and accessible and is available to young people in the area of Jamarana;
- the proposition of sports and recreational activities for Iraqi refugees and other residents of the area has increased;
- the perception of sport as a tool for social gathering is spread and shared.
