On March 20th, 22nd, and 25th, QUTOOF and ICU organized three awareness days for Jordanian youth as part of the GREENSTEP project – “GREEN Skills developmenT and Entrepreneurship support to Promote the green transition of economies in Tunisia, Lebanon, and Jordan,” funded by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM). The events, held in the cities of Amman, Irbid, and Aqaba, engaged more than 120 young participants, providing them with a space for dialogue and sharing on environmental challenges and opportunities related to the green transition.
During these sessions, young people had the opportunity to express their ideas and hopes for the future through open discussions, theatrical performances, and interactive activities. At the end of the sessions, they were invited to reflect on three key questions: What is nature to you? What do you do to protect it? What would you like to do more, and what obstacles do you face? The collected responses will be brought to the attention of the European Community to highlight the commitment and willingness of Jordanian youth to take action for the climate.
Training and Green Job Opportunities
From April to May 2025, fifty of these young people will participate in training on green jobs, developing skills in key sustainability sectors: waste management and recycling, renewable energy, resource efficiency, natural heritage protection, agroecology, sustainable agriculture, eco-design, green manufacturing, and green entrepreneurship.
At the end of the training, the GREENSTEP project will provide further opportunities to facilitate connections with the private sector, organizing meetings with potential employers, career guidance services, and internships to improve young people’s job prospects.
A Campaign to Raise Awareness and Inspire Change
In parallel, QUTOOF is running a social media awareness campaign to promote environmental awareness. To follow the initiative, visit the official Facebook page: Qutoofpd.
The Objective of the GREEN STEP Project
GREEN STEP aims to create a favorable environment for employment and entrepreneurship in sectors related to the green transition, particularly in waste management, tourism, energy, and agriculture. The project places special emphasis on young people and women, aiming to strengthen their economic empowerment and improve their employment prospects. One of the key aspects of the project is raising public awareness about the benefits of a green economy. By promoting individual and social behavioral changes, the initiative seeks to strengthen the resilience of Tunisia, Lebanon, and Jordan to climate change, contributing to a more sustainable future for the region.
