Al-Saha Project: The Stories of Aisha Salah Almahdi and Maryam Khairallah

Aisha Salah Almahdi: The Path from Online Training to Practice

Aisha Salah Almahdi 36 years old midwife. Aisha started her journey as a medical personal after graduations in 2016 and started working in obstetric department at Sabha medical center since then.

Aisha participated in almost all ICU’s trainings in Al-Saha project. About her journey with ICU Aisha said “The journey from online training to practice is undeniably challenging and exciting, but it is also profoundly rewarding. Each step of the training shaped me into more skilled and compassionate healthcare providers”.

She added “I learned a lot, not only how to manage daily cases, but also how to manage critical cases. The instructors were extremely supportive; always doing everything they could so we all succeeded. The material was realistic and informative. I was able to use the emergency protocol we have learned in the ETAT course in many neonatal cases after delivery.”

“Also, I started using the protocol we learned in dividing and dealing with medical waste.

She concluded by saying “ I’m very thankful to ICU as they appreciate the impact that dedicated medical professionals can have on their communities. Hoping for more activities of ICU and other organization in the south.”

“Maybe the challenges are many, but the results will be immeasurable.”

Maryam Khairallah: Knowledge Into Action

“This was when I actually applied everything I learned during the simulation.”

Maryam Khairallah, 29 year old Intensive Care Nurse in the Neonatal department at Kufra Hospital shared her story.

Working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit was always a tough experience for Maryam. The lack of facilities and training made it difficult to manage critical cases, she felt overwhelmed and unsure of herself especially during high pressure situations like CPR on newborns. “I always felt panicked and unsure of my role during resuscitation,” Maryam said. “The pressure and the need to act fast made me doubt my ability.

Her turning point came when she attended a specialized training on neonatal and pediatric CPR organized by the ALSAHA project of ICU in collaboration with Mayer Hospital. Held in Tunisia, the training focused on pediatric and neonatal CPR, combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on simulations. Led by renowned medical experts, the sessions emphasized teamwork, effective communication, and practical resuscitation techniques, exactly what Maryam was missing.

“It was amazing,” she said. “The training gave me the technical skills I needed and the confidence to work with my team during emergencies.”

One evening Maryam faced a critical situation when a newborn went into cardiac arrest. She applied the skills and teamwork principles she learned and remained calm, called for help and led her team through the initial steps of resuscitation until the on-duty doctor arrived.

“For the first time, I was confident, prepared, I knew what to do, and able to make a difference.”
