Burundi, 25 October 2017. On 25/10/2017, the final day of presentation of the results of ICU project for the electrification of Burundi rural areas was held in Bujumbura.
Thanks to funding from the European Union (EU), the Energy and Environment Partnership (EEP), and OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), ICU completed the project that led to the rehabilitation of 4 hydroelectric power plants and to the extension of the power lines in Ryarusera, Butezi, Nyabikere, Kigwena.
Through the rehabilitation of the hydro plants and the training of technical and administrative staff, the project partner ABER (Burundian Rural Electrification Agency) will have more adequate means for the management and supply of electricity in rural areas.
During the final day of presentation, the bystanders discussed and evaluated the positive results achieved. Participants in the event included representatives of the EU Delegation in Burundi, ABER, REGIDESO, other governmental agencies and international NGOs interested in the energy sector.
