From November 2nd to November 5th, ICU has partecipated to the Amsterdam International Water Week where the SWFF – Securing Water for Food funding partners officially announced the winners of the Third Call for Innovations awardees.
Chosen from over 400 proposals, 12 innovations were selected as the top post-pilot, water-for-food solutions. ICU has been awarderd 3 projects to scale-up 3 different innovations to save water for food in agriculture in Jordan, Tunisia and Peru.
Innovations were selected based on a set of rigorous criteria by teh funding partners: USAID, Sweden’s development agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of The Netherlands and South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation.
ICU will work closely with the innovators who invented the solutions to promote their use in agriculture in the three countries.
The innovations are:
The Buried Diffuser – an underground irrigation systems that delivers water to the plants and shurbs at the root level – Tunisia
The Groasis Waterboxx – an integrating planting technology that allow trees and shurbs to grow in degradeted farm and range lands – Jordan
The Irrigation Scheduling System – a system that provides farmers and agriculture technicians with direct indications on the best irrigation practises based on climate and irrigation needs – Peru.
