Tunis, November 19th. From 19 to 22 November 2016, ICU participates at SIAT – International Fair for Investment and Agricultural Technology in Tunis with the project “The Buried Diffuser: An Water Saving Irrigation System“, a project of entrepreneurial development and technological innovation in agriculture through the marketing of Buried Diffuser for farmers in central and southern regions of Tunisia. The project is implemented with the support of USAID, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, Department of Science and Technology, South Africa under the SWFF program – Sustainable Water for Food “.
ICU participates in the exhibition in collaboration with Chahtech Technology, Tunisian enterprise by Dr. Chahbani, inventor and producer of the Buried Diffuser: an underground irrigation system for trees, shrubs and greenhouses that can provide up to 8 liters per hour allowing water and energy savings, reducing waste and soil salinization. Field tests have shown a reduction of 50% of water consumption and an increase in crop production of 40% compared to conventional drip irrigation systems.
At SIAT, ICU and Chahtech will present the product and explain its operation to local institutions, research centres, farmers, retailers, farms and companies in the agro-food sector from Tunisia, Jordan, Italy, France, Denmark , Egypt and Canada.
The SIAT, in its twelfth year, is an exhibition of advanced technologies and research results in the field of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and their related services, for the strengthening of the domestic market and the search for new markets.
The event was inaugurated by the head of the Tunisian Government Mr. Chahed the presence of the Algerian Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Chalghoum, country guest of honor of the fair and of the Tunisian Minister of Agriculture Mr. Taieb.
