The project created temporary jobs for most vulnerable Lebanese and Syrian refugee population groups (women and youth), in order to increase their family income and their living conditions (program Cash-for-Work). The unskilled paid workers have rehabilitated some public services of the municipality of Zahle with high environmental impact (drainage network, sewage system, waste disposal and recycling service) and improved the hygienic conditions of Syrian refugees in the city of Zahle and Saadnayel (Bekaa).
The achieved indicators are as follows:
– 20 km of drains completely cleaned in the municipality of Zahle,
– during the 2014-2015 rainy season, 90% reduction of extraordinary maintenance to Zahle drainage network compared to the previous season.
– during the rainy season of 2014-2015, 100% reduction of flooding in Zahle road network compared to the previous season.
– 1000 Manholes of the sewerage network of Zahle properly cleaned.
– in 2015, 100% reduction of extraordinary maintenance of the sewer system Zahle compared to 2014.
– in 2015, 100% reduction of overflowing wells of wastewater compared to 2014
– 3 km of Berdawni river in the urban section of the municipality of Zahle completely cleaned up.
– 100% reduction of river flooding in the 2014-2015 season compared to that of 2013-2014.
– 5 km2 of the green space of the municipality of Zahle properly maintained during the months of the project.
– increase of 100% (from 35 to 70 tons per day) of recyclable material sorted in the sorting plant of Zahle and sold.
– an estimate of US $ 160,000 collected by the city of Zahle during the 8 months of activity, for the sale of approximately 10,000 tons of recyclable material.
– 6 km of the river Berdawni adjacent to the Syrian settlements in the municipality of Zahle and Saadnayel completely cleaned.
