Workers in the sorting center

The result of the project is the increase of: income for women and youth of the Syrian and Lebanese population in the municipality of Zahle; amount of waste processed; revenues of the municipalities from the sale of recyclable waste; environmental quality in the municipality.
The activity carried out is: employment of women and young workers for the expansion of the recycling and disposal of municipal solid waste collected by the municipality of Zahle and neighboring municipalities.
During the implementation of activities, the project employed working groups of 30 people, including 21 Syrian women and 9 young Lebanese. They worked during 3 cycles of 24 working days . The total beneficiaries were 90, including 63 Syrian workers and 27 young Lebanese.
The beneficiaries were provided with 90 working kits.
The project has facilitated the definitive integration of women workers in the sorting center; the concessionaire of sorting has in fact permanently integrated groups of 14 women in the center.
The presence of workers has allowed an increase of more than 10% of the tonnage of recycled material, and has made the company and the municipalities aware of the need to integrate a larger number of workers in the center, which currently recycles more than 300 tons per day from 10 municipalities.
