The project aims to improve childish nutritional conditions in 40 indigenous communities of Maya Cakchikel in the highland of Guatemala.
To do so ICU will point to an identification of acute malnutrition cases in the targeted Communities and successive treatment and monitoring of under 5 years-old children affected by acute undernourishment, the realization of personalized training on basic themes of nutrition, personal and domestic hygiene to the mothers of children identified as acute malnutrition cases. Delivery of filters to the families to make the water drinkable (acute malnutrition treatment goes with a high consumption of water), the launch of productive micro-projects (production of local clothes, poultry farms) for the mothers in charge of undernourished children, to strengthen families’ micro-economy, the logistic support to the Ministry of Health of Guatemala – headquarter of Chimaltenango – for the training of the medical and paramedical staff (doctors, nurses, infirmary auxiliaries, health technicians) on themes of nutrition defined according to the needs expressed by the Chimaltenango Health District.
