Overview:
the project addresses the problem of nutrition in the district of Pichanaki, Chanchamayo Province, a region of the Peruvian jungle where, because of the widespread poverty conditions, malnutrition cases are very frequent, especially amongst the most vulnerable groups. People most affected by malnutrition are pregnant women and children from zero to five years and these categories are targeted in order to improve quantity and quality of their nutrition. To achieve the objective, three main actions will be implemented: training of women, nutritional and physiological monitoring of targeted beneficiaries and increase quality and quantity in food through the establishment of family gardens.
Activities:
– training courses on diet and nutrition;
– creation and operation of a monitoring system on the nutritional level for pregnant women and children younger than five years operated by a group of 20 health promoters chosen and trained as volunteers in the
community;
– creation and functioning of at least 150 family gardens for the production of vegetables.
Results:
– 9 courses on nutrition and diet and 6 courses on health realised;
– 4 health campaigns realized in collaboration with the Health Ministry;
– basic health programme for 150 mothers and 116 children under 5 years identified;
– 9 health promoters trained;
– 58 family gardens realised and 5 training sessions realized.
