Roula installed a 10 kWp solar system powering a drip irrigation plant for 1 ha of land to grow vegetables
The Project “PV integrated irrigation systems in Jordan and Lebanon” proposes a Clean Energy Solution (CES), a single package for small to medium farmers composed by a photovoltaic (PV) unit and an efficient fertigation system developed and tested in 10 pilot farms and included in the catalogues of the two renewable energy (RE) partner companies, namely Nur Solar Systems (Jordan) and Mena Solar (Lebanon), that will also run the business. The package also includes support to farmers in accessing credit opportunities, based on already existing programs of
Lebanese financial institutions; in Lebanon, Kafalat is the reference financial company with a public concern. The project will train both partner staff and extension agents of the Ministry of Agriculture to make them able to offer a valid support to farmers in preparing credit requests,
The innovation of the Project lies in:
- Product: today there is no market offer for one-product solution, while fertigation systems allow farmers significantly reduce irrigation costs and environmental impact, and PV systems allow them to produce energy at an affordable cost compared with diesel generators.
- Financing: today farmers are alone in dealing with financial institutions, while in the proposed CES salesmen of the enterprises will support them in all steps to get credit.
- Farmers entry-point: they will refer only to one enterprise for all matters.
