Overview:
1) The project involves a study on the market situation of aquaculture and the start of two pilot projects (in the regions of Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna) to develop the production of red sea urchin and “Chanque” by artisanal fishermen.
Activities:
- mapping of aquaculture activities in the south coast of Peru of the products currently marketed and the degree of processing;
- on the coast of Arequipa: granting repopulation areas or population in favour of at least 5 groups of artisanal fishermen, training of fishermen and local authorities, start-up of a processing center and signing of agreements for marketing;
- on the coast of Moquegua and Tacna: analysis of results of pilot actions implemented in the previous years, creation of a “greenhouse” and of a system of sub-auction run by the producers to allow the sale of fresh products, start-up of a processing center.
Results:
- realization of technical training for fisherman;
- realization of a seminar for experts of the sector;
- realization of an educational publication in 1000 copies with the contents of the training;
- formally recognized two areas of repopulation in favour of two associations from the areas of Arequipa and Tacna.
