Beneficiaries at a training session
With this project ICU wants to contribute to the management and conservation of the environmental heritage of the Rio Grande basin through sustainable development in environmental, economic and social fields of communities in the area. Specifically: improve the capacity of adaptation to climate change and the related impact on the hydrological cycle of the population of the Valleys of Santa Cruz.
Among all the project activities, the more relevant have procuced the following results:
Preparation and dissemination in local radio of 22 radio spots and 56 radio programs to sensitize the local population on environmental issues
Training of 38 rangers during 4 of the 6 meetings of three days of each set. Activities carried out in collaboration with the Government of the Departmental Environment Secretary of Santa Cruz and the Management of Protected Areas.
Construction of a hydraulic course (3 meetings from 3 days each) for 34 persons responsible for the maintenance of drinking water systems and irrigation of the 14 communities of origin.
Implementation of 79 of drip irrigation systems or by sprinkling to the benefit of many farmers. Another 50 farmers received the materials and training for the implementation of 50 irrigation systems. Technical studies and implementation agreements were realized with 40 other irrigation systems.
Data collection and coordination with local, governmental, and ministerial institutions to build a research on water resources of the Rio Pirai basin area which contributes to improving the management of space and natural resources. This activity was carried out with the University of Florence.
