Overview:
The general objective of the project is to improve the nutritional conditions of the rural population of the Chimaltenango Plateau in Guatemala, which was badly hit by hurricane Stan. The purpose of the project is to support the families most affected by the storm in 30 rural communities of the municipalities of Tecpan, Santa Apolonia, San Jose Poaquil, Comalapa and Patzicia (5 out of 15 municipalities of the Department of Chimaltenango). The goal of the project is achieved by supplying an agricultural toolkit, organising training activities and providing technical assistance, in order to provide the beneficiary families with the facilities for making their land productive again and ready for the next sowing season.
Activities:
– Distribution of 100 toolkits for agriculture
– Organisation of training courses for 100 people on land recovery methodologies and effective utilisation of the toolkit distributed
– Provision of two-monthly technical assistance in situ.
Results:
– 150 kits distributed (seeds of corn, beans, vegetables, fertiliser, pesticide and toolkits to work an extension of 1 cuerda (0.175ha)
– 150 toolkits for agriculture distributed
– Training courses for 150 people on land recovery methodologies and use of the toolkit – 300 technical assistance interventions.
