Overview:
1) The project aims at improving the living conditions in the Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan.
Project purpose:
• Improving vocational training for the camp dwellers to increase their access to labour market;
• Increasing access to subsidized loans for existing small and medium enterprises and new enterprises;
• Improving social infrastructures in the camps.
Activities:
-Creation of a dedicated training office in the Department of Palestinian Affairs (DPA)
-Capacity building for DPA staff
-Organization of 36 courses for the population in the camps
-Creation of a database for the existing training facilities, for job opportunities and for compiling a list of potential trainers
-Creation of a Credit Unit within the DPA
-Agreement with a local bank for defining a credit system
-Credit training program for the DPA staff
-Implementation of socially useful interventions for 520.000 €.
Results:
-Irbid: construction of the Women Training Centre of the camp;
-Martyr Azmi El Mufti: construction of a Computer and Internet Service Centre;
-Jerash: building of the youth club, orphans centre, woman centre, sports room;
-Hitteen: equipment of the Industrial Sewing Training Center
-Souf: construction of a playground in camp, of a multipurpose sport field, equipment and toys for playground;
-Al Hussein: construction of a double-storey building for Women Activity Center and for Children Day Care Center;
-Sukhneh: rehabilitation of 26 buildings and purchase of a garbage compactor truck for the dwellers;
-Azmii El Mufti, Talbiyeh, Baqa’a Hussein, Hitteen, Irbid, Souf: entertainment shows for the children in collaboration with Clowns Sans Frontières (CSF).
